Liverpool games Trent Alexander-Arnold could miss after knee injury confirmed

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury.

Liverpool suffered a huge blow on Tuesday afternoon when Pep Lijnders confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be sidelined for 'a few weeks' due to a knee injury.

The Reds defender picked up the injury during Sunday's 2-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal at the Emirates. Alexander-Arnold played a role in his side’s opener when his free-kick was headed into his own net by Jakub Kiwior.

Luis Diaz then made sure of the Reds' progress with a breakaway goal in the last minute of added time. His strike came in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

However, the Reds must now prepare for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup first-leg semi-final tie against Fulham without their vice-captain. Lijnders is hopeful the 25-year-old will be able to pick up where he left off once he returns.

He said: "First of all, some not-that-good news, Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game.

"So, he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee, and he will need time to recover. He had a scan, and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that.

"He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him."

As well as missing the first leg against Fulham on Wednesday night, Alexander-Arnold is also expected to miss the Premier League games against Bournemouth and Chelsea. The England international is also expected to miss the second-leg against Marco Silva’s side and an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Norwich City or Bristol City.
